How to Create a Realistic Credit Card in Photoshop

Credit cards have become a part and parcel in our everyday life. Credit card has become indispensable whether you buy or travel. Here we bring to you a few tips that would help in creating a credit card using Illustrator and Photoshop.

Step 1

We well start by putting together a few basics in Illustrator in order to speed up the entire process. Create a 3.5in by 1.9in rectangle. Thereafter, fill this object with a gradient or color of your preference.

Now, sketch out some lines in a curvy shape with the help of a Pen tool. Thereafter, go to Object > Blend > Blend > Blend Options > Specific Steps and enter 30 and click on OK. You have to make two lines with different shades.

Select the line art created by you and and apply a clipping mask using the credit card shape. It is important to ensure that the shape of edit card is placed on the top of the line art. In addition, you have to duplicate the background of the credit card as well.
Important Note – In case you are making use of Illustrator CS5, select credit card and then click on the Draw Inside option to Paste (Cmd or Ctrl + V) in the objects.

Using the Pen Tool, draw the ribbon as shown below.

Completing the above mentioned steps, we are finished with Illustrator. Now, begin by opening Photoshop. Make an all new canvas that is larger than the Illustrator document. Then copy and paste each element made by you in Illustrator. At this pint of time, it is extremely important to have some graphics and logos to be placed on the card. If you do not have some then create them.

Step 3

Now you can add the text. Opt for the Oval Typeface using #f1efed. Then, type some random numbers and games. Next, apply the following layer styles.

Step 4

Now, it starts appearing more like a credit card. In order to make it more realistic and authentic add some shadows to it. Now, duplicate every layer and change colour of the font to black and turn off the layer’s style. This will provide you the base shadow. In the next step, you have to move the shadow numbers three to five pixels towards the right and three pixels down. Then, now go to Filter > Blur > Motion Blur, then type in Angle: -34 and Distance: 10px; adjust the Layer Blend to Multiply and 50% Opacity. Go ahead to give final touches to the front side and check out you reference credit card. Thereafter, add an expiry date and your front side is completed. Create a new folder and place all the layers in it naming it FRONT.

Step 5

Now, let us start working on the backside of your credit card. Duplicate the base of the credit card moving all the layers to the Front folder, thereafter Right Click on the layer and convert it. Select it and fill it with the same colour you used on the Front Side. Make sure you do not use gradients for the backside.

Move to the Front Folder and duplicate all the text layers used by you in Layer Styles (expiration, name and credit card numbers) and take them to the BACK folder. Thereafter, turn them horizontally and modify the text colour to the colour of the credit card’s backside.

Next, you have to modify the Layer Styles of the text layers in order to make them appear like stamped and similar to the reference credit card. For doing this, double click on the layer and modify the values. Repeat the same procedure for other layers as well.

Step 6

Now the credit card appears just like your reference. Move ahead and organise the remaining elements you created for your credit card’s backside.

A few elements such as the signature rectangle can be created using Photoshop, in case you have your own logo, it can be rotated to 45 degrees and duplicated various times for making a pattern. Select each one and modify the color with Saturation and Hue (Cmd/Ctrl + U) and merge them together. In the next layer, create a rectangle of the size you want for the signature and fill the same with white color. Make a selection of rectangle > select the pattern layer and click on (Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + I) to the selection made by you and Erase. Thereafter, merge both the layers.

For making another layer, select a black brush and create a random signature. Lastly, you can add security codes to it.

Step 7

If you want, you can simply add the tutorial now. However, you can also consider adding a few perspective to your credit card. Duplicate every folder, Right click on the group folder selecting the Merge group. Repeat the same for every folder. Now, you would have two layers, one for the back and for the front of the credit card. Select both the layers and click on Cmd/Ctrl + T to change and decrease their size. Thereafter, rotate them slightly and Right click on them to select Perspective and modify them as desired by you.

Step 8

Select credit card’s layer and duplicate it, select it and fill it with a light grey colour, thereafter move about 2 pixels towards the right. In order to create credit card’s shadow, duplicate it and select it filling it with a black colour. Now, click on Cmd/Ctrl + T to transform >, right click and select Distort modifying it as desired by you. Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur > 10 px radius and arrange the Layer Blend in order to Multiply at thirty per cent Opacity.

For creating the Reflection, you have to duplicate both layers of the credit card. Select the layers and turn them perpendicularly (Cmd + T > Right Click > Flip Vertical) setting them on the credit card’s tip. Select a soft eraser brush with about 30 percent Opacity and erase every layer for making the reflection.

Step 9

Now is the time to create some shadows and lights. Select the credit card and create a new layer. Select a soft brush having twenty percent Opacity, then on the top left corner add some light. Thereafter, modify the colour to the black and make sure to add shadows on the lower right corner.

Final Image

Lastly, create a background to complete the process. For making images on each side of the card, you have to turn off the layer of the front side. It is important for you to keep in mind that turning the corresponding reflection layer off and on is equally important.
So, using these ten steps you can create card icons. You can design different colours of credit cards by using Saturation and Hue.

Conquering The Inner Demons

Sometimes we want to speak our heart out to strangers. Why? Because they have no role in our lives and are never going to judge us based on their pre-conceived notions. Today I am presenting you a story of one such stranger. Sometimes, someone else’s story unscramble riddles that mystifies us from time to time, creating a new awakening. I hope this story would also serve the purpose.

Stranger-

For last one week I was feeling so bad, like being at the bottom of the world. I was not able to figure out why this restlessness is growing each day. May be some personal problems were not letting me sleep peacefully in my bed. But, I wanted to figure it out and all I wanted was peace to descend on me.

“I need some motivation!” I said to one of my colleagues. But she was busy watching fickle shades of weather.
“Look, now it’s raining, wow! I love this weather, I should ask my bro if it’s raining back home too.” She said.

She got up to make a call. And I was rooted to same place, restlessness intact. I tried to indulge myself in some work, but in vain.. There was a sense of fear of losing something, not sure what, inside and I could feel that vanishing bit by bit. I wanted to hold it back even though I was aware that I can’t, as it was not my personal property.

This fear started surfacing a long time back which kept me in a trance. I knew this phase had to come but I didn’t want it to play host to it and so I tried my best to keep my soul with the same mate, who is no more there.

The entire week passed immersed in the same restlessness. For an year this restlessness, this fear has tormented me. I wanted to escape this reality. But it was REALITY, TRUTH, FACT which I couldn’t close my eyes on for long. I lost interest in everything, limiting myself to that illusion.

I used to go to office, type, talk and come home. Cook, sleep, and again wake up for the same routine day. But, I couldn’t bear it longer. My conscious, once happy soul started urging me to live again. “Life is beautiful and only you can make it beautiful”- I knew this, but I didn’t want to realize this beautiful saying, being in fear of losing something inside.

But, how long could I have hold the illusion and ignored my urge to live again. And this week a transformation suddenly kicked in my heart.. My inner urge, my ignored thoughts started attracting their way to get into action. I needed motivation, inspiration; something that could enlighten my soul again. And so, one day my colleague gave me a book which turned my life upside down.

I read it and started feeling lighter. That book showed me ways to live in a manner. I had always aspired but never dared to. In a way that book was symptomatic of my inner urge and thoughts. I realised them and gave my life a new beginning. Today, I am happy and relaxed because I have accepted the reality, the fact, the truth. The fear has become real. The fear of losing is no longer there as I have nothing to lose.

Now I am ready to give my life a new beginning, a new way to live again.

It seems true that our fear disappears only when it becomes real. After the realisation, the fear no more exists, as it has already happened. When our worst fears are countered by us in reality we are liberated, freed from the slavery of the Demon called fear.

Match Fixing Incidents Till Date

Match fixing represents the dark side of any game, be it cricket, football or hockey. In the recent years there has been an increase in the number of match fixing incidents. However, they are not new to the world of sports. Match is said to be fixed when one or more players agree to influence the result of the game, rendering the very nature of sports void . Here we bring to you a sneak peak into several match fixing incidents that occurred in the world of sports.

The first ever match fixing incident took place in the year 1919 when betters bribed a few members of the Chicago White Sox to flip the world series. This came to be known as the popular Black Sox Scandal. It was enumerated in the form of movie and book, Eight Men Out.

In the year 1952, Frank Hogan, District Attorney accused basketball players of a college for match fixing from 4 New York schools including Long Island University, New York University, CCNY and Manhattan College.

In the year 1978, gangsters contacted the popular Lucchese crime family in the New York. Of them Jimmy Burke and Henry Hill planned for a match fixing scheme with the important members of the Boston College basketball team.

Pete Rose, a former baseball player accepted a ban from Major League Baseball for gambling on Cincinnati Reds games on August 24, 1989 while managing the baseball teams. In his autobiography, My Prison Without Bars, which was released in the year 2004, he wrote about the allegations and confirmed them too.

Campus bookmaker Benny Silman along with several players from the Arizona State University planned a comprehensive match fixing scheme in the year 1994. Las Vegas bookmakers smelled something fishy over large bets being made against the Arizona State university, and thus helped in uncovering the entire plot.

In February 1999, Malaysia based betting group was caught red handed while installing a remote-control device to disrupt the functioning of the floodlights at Charlton Athletic’s ground with the assistance of a corrupt officer. Further investigations revealed that the group has been responsible for floodlight failures at West Ham’s ground in the winters of November 1997. A month later, that is in December 1997 the gang damaged the light at Crystal Palace’s ground.

In the year 2000, Delhi police trapped the conversation between the Cricket captain of the South African team, Hansie Cronje and a blacklisted bookie. The conversation revealed that the Hansie Cronje accepted money to loose matches. However, the South African government denied to allow its players to undergo any investigation being conducted by the Indian government. Cronjie accepted taking bribe for fixing matches in the court enquiry. He was banned from playing cricket. He also disclosed the name of other players including Ajay Jadeja and Mohammed Azharuddin (India) and Saleem Malik (Pakistan). Ajay Jadeja was banned from playing cricket for four years. As a kingpin, Hansie Cronjie exposed the dark side of gambling to the world. Two renowned South African Cricketers Nicky Boje and Herschelle Gibbs are wanted by the Delhi Police for their role in match fixing. In 1998, two Australian cricket players, Shane Warne and Mark Waugh were fined for disclosing important information about the weather to a bookie.

In October 2000 the Italian Football Federation declared that it had found eight football players guilty of match fixing. Five were from Serie B side Pistoiese and the other three played for Serie A side Atlanta. The players were Girolamo Bizzarri, Gianluca Lillo, Daniele Amerini, Massimiliano Allegri (all Pistoiese) and Sebastiano Siviglia, Cristiano Doni and Giacomo Banhelli (all Atlanta).

Thirty people including club officials, an official of the South African Football Association, a match commissioner and nineteen referees were arrested for fixing a match in June 2004 in South Africa.

In 2004 summers, Betfair gave an evidence of race fixing to the London Police that led to the arrest of fifteen people including jockey Kieren Fallon on race fixing charges.

In later part of 2004, match between Dinamo Tbilisi and Panionios in the 2004-2005 UEFA Cup was suspected to be fixed after bookmakers noted a high number of half time stakes for a 5-2 win for the Greek team which was initially trailing 0-1.

Bundesliga Scandal 2005 – In January 2005, the German prosecutors and German Football Association started separate inquiries into charges that referee Robert Hoyzer fixed and bet on various matches including a German cup tie. Later, he admitted the allegations. There were reports of him being involved with the notorious Croat gambling gang. He involved other players and referees in the point shaving scheme. The first arrests in the Hoyzer probes were made in Berlin on January 28. Further investigations revealed that he was involved in fixing more matches than he admitted. This led to his arrest on February 12. A lifetime ban has been imposed on him by DFB. On March 10, police arrested another referee Dominik Marks for being involved in match fixing. Hoyzer was sentenced for two years and five months of imprison.

In July 2005, Italian Seriw B champion Genoa was randomly placed in the last division. Hence, condemned to relegation in Serie C1. It was discovered that they bribed the opponent team members in the final match. Genoa secured promotion to Serie A after winning the match.

Brazilian Football Match Scandal – A Brazilian magazine revealed in September 2005 that two football referees, Paulo Jose and Edilson Pereira de Carvalho accepted money to fix matches. Following this, sport authorities announced the replaying of eleven matches in the country’s top most competition, the Campeonato Brasileiro, that had been worked by Edilson. Both the referees faced a permanent ban and may face criminal charges as well.

2006 Serie A Scandal – It was in the year 2006 that the largest match fixing scandal was brought to light by the Italian police involving league champions Juventus and powerhouses Lazio, Fiorentina and AC Milan. Teams were doubted for choosing favourable referees and goalkeeper of Italian World Cup team, Gianluigi Buffon who was accused for staking money on football matches. Juventus were robbed of their titles in 2004-05 and 2005–06, all the four football clubs were denied entry in the European club competition in 2006-2007.

2007 NBA Referee Scandal – In July 2007, it was discovered that the National Basketball Association referee Tim Donaghy had staked money on ten to fifteen games including the matches refereed by him. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is probing the matter along with NBA.

The Fix, 2008 – Book written by Declan Hill revealed that in 2006 World Cup, the group game played between Italy and Ghana, the round-of 16 game between Brazil and Ghana, and the Ukraine-Italy quarter-final were all fixed by the Asian betting groups to whom the final scores were already known. The German Football League (DFL) and German Football Federation (DFB) looked into the allegations made in a Der Spiege interview that Bundesliga games were fixed by William Bee Wah Lim.

2008- According to a report published on October 1, a Spanish judge who headed the probe against Russian Mafia uncovered information alleging the gamblers might haver tried to fix the 2007-2008 UEFA Cup Semi-Final between Bayer Munich and eventual champions Zenit St. Petersburgh. However, both the clubs denied of having some knowledge of any match fixing.

2008 – On October 4, suspicious online betting on the match between Derby County and Norwich City led to the questions on the validity of the Football League match. It was believed that gamblers in Asia have staked a large amount of money during half-time which in turn raised concerns over the result. However, the inquiry conducted by the Football Association found no evidence to prove that the match was fixed. Derby counted won the match 2-1.

2009 – On May 6, 2009 a federal jury in Detroit accused six former athletes from the University of Toledo – three each from the school’s basketball and football team – on charges of match fixing conspiracy that ran from 2003 to 2006.
